Schiel Road – from Mueschke Road to Approximately 1/2 Mile West of Mueschke Road
Terra Associates, Inc. contracted with Harris County to provide the engineering design for the reconstruction of Schiel Road from a two lane open ditch asphalt section into a full four lane boulevard section from Mueschke Road to ½-mile west of Mueschke Road. The design followed typical Harris County design criteria consisting of 10-inch concrete pavement with curb and gutter. Approximately 2,400-LF of 24-inch and larger storm sewer is required for the project. Also included in the design is an asphalt transition at the west end to tie the new four lane boulevard section back into the existing asphalt section. A three-phase traffic control plan (Phase 1 TCP to allow the installation of the storm sewer trunk line, Phase 2 to construct the westbound traffic lanes and Phase 3 to construct the east bound lanes), a traffic signal warrant study, right-of-way alignment and acquisition map, and a drainage analysis to determine offsite flows and the requirements for detention. The project required coordination between Harris County and four independent consulting firms.
